Everybody loves a good chicken dish and Bali excels in chicken, or Ayam, as the locals call it.  We’ve rounded up our favourite of the foodie offerings within a short ride of your luxury private villa at Villa Kubu Seminyak, to help make your holiday just as tasty as can be.

Makao

2 mins by bike – casual dining experience

Located on Jalan Plawa, just minutes from your private pool villa, Makao is one of our happy places.  It’s a cosy, comfortable place to while away some time and enjoy a drink from their cute cocktail bar and some delicious food.  The food focuses on Asian street food specialities and in our experience is always fresh and delicious. A recent excellent addition to the menu, their Hainan Chicken is, in our opinion, the best in Bali.  Tender, juicy chicken simmered with Chinese special herbs & served with the house made chicken broth and traditional Singaporean Sambal. Don’t miss out!

Gapet

5 mins by bike – authentic local lunch spot

Specialising in Indonesian and Balinese cuisine, the restaurant is named after a culinary device, the gapet, which involves wooden clamps that brace and compress the food during cooking to ensure maximum flavour and tenderness.  Their signature dish Ayam Betutu is Balinese Roasted Chicken with lemongrass, galangal & ginger. Tamade

5 mins by bike – cosy lunch cafe

We love the ambience of this family run café, with its walls covered with murals by local artists, but really we come here for the authentic home cooked Indonesian food.  Try the Umami Bowl for a taste sensation that will be different to anything you’ve experienced before. At 55.000Rp, it’s amazing value, and consists of braised chicken on the bone, served over steamed rice and drizzled with the house special salted egg sauce.  This dish is simply delicious and heartily satisfying. Tamade is one of our favourite lunchbreak spots.

Taco Beach Grill

5 mins by bike – fun dinner spot

You may not expect to find world class Mexican food in Seminyak, Bali, but this bright, cheery little restaurant does an excellent job of delivering just that.  The head chef and owner is an American expat with a love of utilising local ingredients in new and interesting ways to create delicious Mexican cuisine. They have several excellent chicken dishes on the menu.  Our favourite is the Oaxacan Chicken Taco, the chicken is smoked, brined, flame grilled, marinated in fresh herbs, jalapeno peppers, olive oil & fresh lime juice and finally sautéed just before serving with the mind blowing house made special salsas. Cool your jets with one of the house designed specialist cocktails for a refreshing pick me up.

There are a few branches of this beloved Indonesian takeaway around Seminyak.  The most popular by far is the one on Sunset Road, just a short bike ride from your private villa.  If you have a craving for perfect rotisserie chicken and crispy chips, look no further. Visitors to Bali have been known to make pitstops for takeaway as they’re on the way to the airport!

Oasis

2 mins barefoot walk – great for dinner

This accurately names little restaurant is a haven of tranquillity just off the bustling Jalan Raya Seminyak.  Relax with a glass of wine in the pretty little courtyard, surrounded by greenery and waited on by unobtrusive staff.  One of their signature dishes is the Ayam Sambal Bawang; shredded crispy chicken mixed with red onions and sambal that can be spicy or spicier, according to your personal preference.  This is one of our favourite tastes of Indonesia, beloved by the locals, served in a very beautiful setting in our in house restaurant, The Oasis.
